3, 5 or 7 Days in the Algarve? Three Ready-Made Trip Shapes

The Algarve rewards focus over distance. Below are the three shapes we recommend most, each built around one base so you unpack once and drive in short hops.

Three days — one town, deep

Pick Lagos or Tavira and stay put. Day one: the home town properly — old streets, market, sunset point. Day two: a boat or kayak morning, beach afternoon, long dinner. Day three: one excursion west or east, then the beach you liked best. Zero hotel changes.

Five days — two bases

Split between the west (Lagos) and centre-east (Albufeira or Tavira). Add a Benagil coastline morning, a golf or spa afternoon, and one market visit. Driving never exceeds forty-five minutes on changeover day.

Seven days — the full coast

Sagres and the wild west coast for two nights, central beaches for three, Tavira and the island for two. You will see every landscape type the region offers — surf cliffs to lagoon islands — without ever rushing a beach afternoon.

Booking order that saves money

Secure accommodation first (July–August sells out town centres), then flights once dates lock, then experiences in the final week. Transfers from Faro can be arranged last — supply is deep.

One local note

Whatever the shape, protect one completely unplanned beach day. Visitors who schedule every hour consistently rank their trip lower than those who leave space for the tide and the mood.
